4.23.07.Journal Quilt

4.23.07.Journal Quilt, originally uploaded by creativelenna.

A second entry - this is a fabric piece I made that uses a paper image of the woman attached. The green/gold marbled looking stuff is paper too and both are sewn on. At the bottom of the image is a photo I took printed out onto a clear transparency of green shoots coming up - it's Spring around here. There is rubberstamping too. The back has a journal entry about the piece printed on fabric and this is typical of how I work, mixing things up!

Thanks! Bearuh, the photo is one I took around my neighborhood here in CT. After the winter we had, I was very happy to see these green shoots coming up. I printed it onto a transparency instead of regular photo paper just to see what it looked like . . .

It looks really great. I've worked with traditional media (watercoulor, acrylics, ink, etc.) for ages and I'm just beginning to try some collage work right now - and I feel so clumsy! Especially when I look at professional work like yours. Can you tell me if you used some kind of medium to blend everything together in the end?

Pequete,
No I did not use medium on this piece because it is a small (6" x 6") fabric "quiltie". The base of it (off-white) is fabric and there is a back to this piece that is a journal entry printed on fabric and sewn to it. I am making one a week to put together for a large fabric wall piece - you can follow along on my blog. So, on the front I left the marbled paper, paper image and transparency just 'as is' with no medium over them. The best advice I can give is just to jump in & try!
