Picasso said "Every act of creation is first an act of destruction." Do I agree? I'm not sure, but this is what came to mind when I saw this week's topic, and this is the drawing that came out of it. What do you think?
Yes and No, when we build those new housing developments we cut down the trees and destroy the meadows to make room for the roads and parking garages, but new neighborhoods are created. Very creative concept and symbolism for "build". I love the big hammer overlaid by the little ones.
I like it, especially the colours. But I can't decide whether the smaller hammers are real ones or shadows of hammers we don't see in the picture. It probably has no importance at all, it's just the rational me, trying to make sense out of things (I'm a natural science illustrator, and I have to struggle with myself whenever I'm trying to do something more "artful")
if something is empty and you fill it the emptiness is destroyed as the fullfillment is acheived. That is the balance of life or the Tao. I get it! So I love the way you filled the page with hammers as you hammer the point of the nail home! Yer so smart!
I agree with Picasso. I think destruction can be a possitive thing. My love for my wife grows out of the destruction of mistrust and fear. I destroy the monsters of my past with the creation of art or the creation of love for another.
I love ValGal and Mike's explanation of "destruction", don't you? And I love the hammers, the main tool needed for building. The orange contrast is perfect!

I am so agree with Ces. With Picasso too! Nice illustration!
Hi Pequete, just to put your mind at ease, the smaller hammers are shadows.
Thanks for your comments everyone!
