a different kind of zoo!
when my oldest son was little guy, around 4ish, we took him to the city zoo. he wasn't really speaking much back then, much less than now, which is still, not all that much.
but...as we were walking in, he saw this man let go of 30-40 balloons. he just opened his fingers and they soared up, up, up right to the clouds!
my son was jumping up and down, laughing and pointing at the army of balloons getting smaller and smaller against the blue sky.
"BALLOON ZOO, MOMMY! THE BALLOON ZOO! DO WE SEE THAT BALLOON ZOO?"
"Yep. I saw it honey," I said, trying not to cry as he wouldn't understand how happy he just made me - he would just see me sad. "It was amazing, huh? They all just went right up to the clouds!"
And every animal we visited after that, the toucans, the elephants, the flamingos and the lemurs, i just knew how he saw them...riding on balloons, soaring up, up and up.

This is just so beautiful...both the story and the illustration! I admit i kind of shed a tear on this one....really beautiful :o)
Love the story, just adds to the cute illustration. Kinda bummed though I wanted to see the Giraffe balloon. Heehee. Like this illo a lot, fun and playful. Love the monkeys of course. Penguins are fun too.
I loved the illo at the instant i saw it...but after reading the story my tears don't let me see it very well!
