Open Gallery Show

The Illustration Friday Show at Open

Illustration Friday and Open Book Store are showcasing twenty-five IF-community-chosen artists at the first ever Illustration Friday gallery show!

The show begins November 3rd and runs through January 20th.

Open is located at 2226 E. 4th St. in Long Beach, CA.

The IF community created 678 total entries out of which 25 were chosen by IF artists to be in the show.

This is my "open" illustration that will be in the show, thanks to the votes of people like you! Thank you, my friends! I will post photos of the opening.

BTW: this image was done with gouache paints on 8x10 bristol paper. The background was done with a sponge (no masking) and a stipple brush. This took about 5 solid hours.

this may seem like a dumb question but how different is gouache than acrylics?

Acrylics are plastic, more difficult to mix and blend. Gouache is an opaque watercolor, easy to use but some people find the colors difficult to keep clean. Gouache was used a lot by children's artists and animation designers in the 40s through the 60s which makes it perfect for achieving a retro look.
