MONDAY ARTDAY ANNUAL BOOK

So I have been thinking about the book for Monday Artday and trying to decide the best way to make it.
1. Have only the winning artwork in it
2. Have members artwork who contribute the most
3. Go through the entire site and choose what I think is good.
3. Have you send me some of your best work, high resolution.
What is your opinion?

I think all those ideas are good, its really going to be up to you what you think is best though. I'm game whatever you decide. Just let me know.

Maybe you choose the work that you find is suitable and then you ask the
creators to send it to you in high resolution...
I wouldn´t choose only the winners because in a week´s competition there can be more excellent posts for a theme than only one...

Ya its SO hard to decide... I think I may go through and pick the best works... but I want everyone to be in the book .. but there are so many members..so im sort of lost!!!

I have to say you have your work cut out for you... I suggest ruthlessness in your choosing process (but not to discriminate against all Ruths... did I mention me & bad puns..?). I go through hundreds of images every day as a photographer and it can be amazingly heart wrenching if you stop to second guess yourself. Don't look back.

And good luck!

why don't you just make the whole book of Baker and move on.

Yes, it looks to be very difficult to choose with so many great contributions here. The process may be painful, but the end product will sure be worth it. Good luck Bearuh!

That's cool Bearuh. I guess just pick your favs, but there's a lot out there that are excellent pieces.

I'm no expert by any means, but I've been a part of other communities who've done something like this before. ArtWanted.com puts out a book and a calendar. For the calendar I think it's that everyone submits a peice or two, or three, and choses the dates they want their work to show up on. Balances out to a first come, first served. An email is sent out letting you know whether or not you got the date you chose. As for the book, I think everyone involved has the option to be a part of it, but due to printing fees and such, there's a small fee to participate. (Can't think off-hand what it was though.)

With this in mind, I think anyone who wants to participate should be able to but may need to help the process along by contributing more than artwork. Could be as little as $5 each submission depending on the size of the book and publishing costs.

My thoughts anyway. Good luck! It sounds wonderful!

I'm not sure how you could work this to be fair. Perhaps you could set up a theme for the book and give everyone a month to submit something on that theme? You could also publish it free (charged only per order) through Lulu: http://www.lulu.com/

JPiC made me laugh outloud...do the whole thing using Mike's work! Hilarious! His work IS awesome! He needs to publish a book all by himself :) I'm kinda' torn with how you should do this...I agree with some other comments, some weeks there are so many wonderful pieces submitted that it would be hard to pick just the winner's art. Maybe let everyone send you what they felt was their best piece then you could decide if you agree or not. Then everyone would have a chance to participate and submit something that they felt was their best work. Other than that or being "ruthless", there's no easy answer. Could people submit a small version, let others "vote" on them anonymously where you'd only see the votes, then those "winners" would be chosen? Just throwing out some ideas. (I'd probably be in line to buy a book, though!) :)

I don't like the competition idea for a book. Every artist that wants to participate should be celebrated.

How big is this book? I mean... you could post winners of the themes and a few other related entries. That would keep it well organized and let's face it, everyone does really great work that could've won. That way everyone would have a chance to be in it. Please no secret votes.

I think everyone has some great comments. The idea is a good one.

There have been so many amazing entries that to only publish the winners would seem unfair to people who missed winning by a hair's breadth. It would be nice to represent everyone is some way.

It could be an anuual thing like a Journal--"Best of Monday Artday 07" etc

and you could pick the winners and "runner ups" (meaning any other work that seems suitable and appropriate maybe attempting to include somethings by everyone if that was possible.

However you do it would probably be fine.

I think it should be a competition. A competition to the death! A big free-for-all! Artist against artist! Wielding markers and pencils! And when the dust clears.....

do a whole book of Baker's work.
