I hope this fits the criteria for a pattern.  This turned out okay but I had a hard time.  I have severe neuropathy in my hands from my cancer treatment.  So it makes it very difficult to work on my art.  It's such good therapy for me so I keep trying. 

Folk Art done in a medium I'm not used to

I apologize for being a week late and I hope it's okay to post.  I haven't posted anything for many years and I thought I needed to get back into this.  It's so fun.  So I took a sketch that I had done with perspective and all that I would normally do and turned it into my version of Folk Art.  Then I chose a medium that I'm really not used to at all:  crayons.  At least not any more.  I used to love them!  Now the thing I forgot about is that crayons have crumbs and they smudge.  That was a particular challenge to learn how to do this without ruining everything.  I have to say that I almost started over with a medium I feel comfortable with but I forged on.  Now maybe true Folk Art wouldn't have a kitty family that owns a dog but I thought, why not!  I hope you'll enjoy my attempt.

PROGRESS ON MY CHRISTMAS PAINTING..........FINALLY

Okay, so I know it's been way too long since my last entry but we've had so many major problems since then in our family. I don't know if I mentioned it before but our daughter was diagnosed with breast cancer in October of 2015 and had a double mastectomy.  She carries the BRCA2 gene mutation like Angelina Jolie.  Then I was diagnosed with the same thing.  It means chances of having breast cancer, ovarian cancer, prostrate cancer, and pancreatic cancer are greater than in a normal  population.  Note that I didn't just say female because men can get breast cancer also and there's the prostrate element in it also.   I listed chances in that order.  Gracie lives in NYC with 2 very small children and a husband that is a resident doctor at a NYC hospital.  Of course we were back there constantly to help and it was a good thing I had my job with jetBlue.  The company was wonderful about helping us and others to get on flights.

In April I had genetic counseling and they advised me that because I was older I didn't need to have a mastectomy but further screening as a precaution.  Also they advised me to get my ovaries out.  We decided that 2017 would be the year for that as we already had enough to deal with with upcoming help for Gracie.  Would you believe I started to fill bloated and when I ate I filled up too fast.  This was in September and I started to think this reminded me of my sister's ovarian cancer 16 years ago (she's still alive!).  The symptoms continued and I called my doctor to ask about it.  We were slated to go back to NYC as Gracie was having breast reconstruction.  The nurse asked if I was bleeding and I said no.  So she said I could wait until I got back to come in.  That's what I did.  In the meantime when I was in NYC I kept thinking what is the deal?!?  Why is my stomach feeling so fat?!?  I must need exercise.  So I was running up and down her apartment building constantly the whole time I was there.

I came back and still had symptoms but I had an appointment for the doctor towards the end of November.  When I went in she ordered tests but the next day as I was working after 4 hours I thought this is ridiculous!  It will take days before the insurance is approved for the tests.  I told my husband we have to go to the ER.  So of course they discovered malignant cells in all the liquid that the cancer had produced in my abdomen.  Long story made short:  I had surgery for ovarian cancer 11/29/16.  Actually it's really Fallopian tube cancer.  They're sure it started there and usually does with BRCA2 patients.  Now I'm undergoing chemotherapy at a  great place in Salt Lake City:  the Hunstman Cancer Center.  I feel confident that, even though it's 3rd stage, I'm going to beat it just like my sister.

So, any women out there, please take note of my symptoms and don't ignore them. If I had I probably wouldn't be here.  A doctor told us that they hardly ever diagnose this type of cancer early unless the woman is in some kind of accident and they discover inadvertently that something is wrong with her ovaries.

Here it's the end of January and yesterday I felt well enough to paint, finally.  Chemo really takes it out of you.  I'll post later more about it but for now I just want to say that I'm going to try and keep up with my art.  It's hard as my hands are very shaky sometimes but I think it's very very important to have something about me besides my cancer diagnosis.

P. S. Gracie is doing so well!  So far so good!  Can you believe that this happened to a mother and daughter all within the space of a year.  Too strange for words!

I´ve been thinking a lot about "Monday Artday" lately and asked myself if the blog is finished for good or if there is a chance to continue this art-challenge group. 

I know that one of the problems is that blogger has reduced the number of members allowed to a blog. This means that no new members can be added here. So my idea is that we can make a Facebook-group out of it. 

I would like to know from bearuh and Mike R. Baker and also the old members, especially from those who contributed on a regular basis to this blog, if they are still interested in it or what their opinion is, so please leave your comments here!

片っ端から片付ける

 

仕事の進め方って、まずタスクの優先順位を決めてその高い順に片付けてくってのがふつうだよね

でも経験則的に、直感で手のつくタスクをかたっぱしから片付けてく方が全然効率的なような気がしていて、

そうしたら最近そういう考え方が徐々に広まってきつつあるからうれしい（これからの主流な考え方になると思うのだけど）

なんで優先順位を決めない方が効率いいかって理由は色々あるけど、まず優先順位を決めてる間に簡単なタスクなら2、3個片付けられるってこと

それから人間の潜在意識っていうのはぼくらが思っている以上に優れていて、かたっぱしから片付けているふうに見えて、結果的に効率のよい順番でやってるんだよね

それを顕在意識で時間をかけて判断してると、間違った順番で、やんなくてもよいようなことを時間かけてやることになってしまうんだ（良かれと思ったのにっていう結果にね）

つまり何が言いたいかっていうと、判断に2秒以上かけると顕在意識が余計なことを色々言ってくるからね、なるべくすぐ決断して実行した方がいいとぼくは思うんだってこと◎

My work is eclectic.  I see photo ops in everything, so I take photos of

anything at all. I keep some of them pretty much as they come from

the camera with a little tweaking. But I also create lots of representational

and non-representational abstracts.  I am a retired art teacher

so I'm just having fun creating art from my photos. Although I currently

have enough photos to last the rest of my lifetime, I try to go out with

my camera a couple of times each week ---not so much in the winter, though.

On both my blog and Flickr pages, I often tell how I created something

using Photoshop CC and/or Topaz filters. I usually begin with my own

photos and go wherever my mood happens to take me. I usually know

what to expect, but sometimes I try something new ---and although it may

not work out, sometimes my experimentation results in something

interesting, different, and wonderful.
