I was at the Doctor's today for hours and attempted to do "Wicked."
I've just gotten the iPad and am not very good yet (I may never
be--it's clumsy and awkward.) I fiddled with it slightly on photoshop (top). Bottom shows original from iPad

So this was an illustration about colonialism, mainly European and to the South. The illustration was published in Maailman kuvalehti which is a Finnish magazine that mostly deals with subject matter outside the developed nations.

It's not that usual to see B&W illustrations in magazines anymore but I managed to sell the idea to them. What I didn't tell the client, was the actual reason I picked this particular technique – I had a fever and this was the only technique that didn't require any strength…

After some careful consideration I am happy to name the work”¡Tachán!” by the illustrator FHNavarro the winner of the ‘Magic’ challenge. I was very impressed with the use of the angled composition that enhanced the mystical/magical atmosphere in this image. The restricted colour pallet works extremely well. Lastly the quirky placement of the white rabbit finished the image of perfectly.

Again in Mikes absents I feel that we all need a focused challenge. The magic challenge went well. I will post who I have selected in the next day or two. But to get your brain cells firing again, I have a new challenge. ‘Wicked’, this will run through to the Monday the 28th. Have fun with it and I’ll be interested to see what you all come up with.

I know this is super late and not up for the competition, but I thought I would share it. I was inspired by the flying machines prompt. It made me wonder: what if dinosaurs left earth, rather than going extinct, and then finally came home to assert their dominance.

I plan on submitting a few for this topic. My favorite. This is a very personal illustration as it intertwines everything that I love or that is important. Magic weaves its way into my life almost everyday. I always tell people my dream car is a flying Ford Anglia... but only the diehards will get that reference. :)
