Flying Machines

The Triumphant Return 16 x 24 Pen & Ink, Digital Color, Vector Elements.

I know this is super late and not up for the competition, but I thought I would share it. I was inspired by the flying machines prompt. It made me wonder: what if dinosaurs left earth, rather than going extinct, and then finally came home to assert their dominance.

T-shirt Illustration Art

Hello all. I have been abscent from the MAD world for awhile. I have started submitting some designs for Threadless.com lately. If you have any great ideas for t-shirt designs, Threadless is a cool place to submit designs. There is also a lot of great art to see over there and many artists who are willing to give honest art critiques; if you decide to get involved.

Lucky

I have not been around lately and I have not been doing a whole lot of extracurricular art lately. I may not post for a while either. This is a design for "Griffin Day 5k" a day to support my family and my son. May 2oth 2009 he was diagnosed with Leukemia. The doctor told us we were lucky that it was Leukemia ALL because it has a 80-90% cure rate. Quote:"if your child is to get cancer, this is the one you want to get." We actually have been blessed by support from our family and community; we have been quite lucky in that regard.

Design: My son with cells in an exploded out view to the left. Cancer cells (red circles) are intertwined with white blood cells (yellow circle for design sake) which then fade until there is no cancer cells. Purple is my sons favorite color, hence the purple shirt.

Doofus

Here is a doofus that I hope is not too late. When I think of great doofuses, as defined by this challenge, I think of the television show "Freaks and Geeks." An underrated show that was unceremoniously canceled after only one season, "Freaks and Geeks" had so many great characters. This guy would have fit in perfectly with his D & D handbook in hand.

This can ruin a nice day at the beach. Technically, this could work for "doofus" too.

No action and no story here. I just wanted to do a portrait in my style. I did not get to the style part; I wanted to add color and texture. So, here is a strange drawing instead.

Greek Myth

Ignorance is Bliss.

Hephaestus was the Greek for-runner of the Roman God Vulcan. Hephaestus was married to Aphrodite and Vulcan was married to Venus. Besides having the same marital issue, they both also had mother issues and were handicapped.

I just finished reading "The Watchmen." This picture was inspired by what would have happened if the smartest man in the world's plan did not go according to plan.

Speed

Here is a vector tid-bit that was used to describe the evolution of human travel: From Camel to Rocket.

Robots

I don't know why, but when I saw "robots" I thought of a giant subterranean robot holding a child in it's hand. I think it could be the root of a great epic.

Schoolhouse Rock

When I think of Schoolhouse rock I think of the song, "A Bill on Capital Hill." As a kid it made the process of passing a bill sound fun. As an adult my view of passing bills has changed a bit.

Grimm

This is a Triptych Illustration of an obscure story by The Brothers Grimm. It is from "The Story of the Youth Who Went Forth to Learn What Fear Was." The climax of the story is when the youth stays in a haunted castle for three nights in an effort to learn what fear is. Night one, he is confronted by scary cats with fiery chains. Night two, he bowls with a group of severed in half men who use skulls for balls and legs for pins. Night Three, he wagers his life, with an old man, that he can cut in anvil in two with an axe. The whole time he mutters to himself "If I could but shiver." Odd and grim story to say the least.
