There are many songs in Finland about husbands driving their families out into the snow with an ax on Christmas eve. Admittedly, there is a vast undercurrent of domestic violence fueled by alcohol abuse but probably no more so than in the surrounding countries (excluding Sweden of course - the haven of sunshiny people). The cliché Christmas is still not a happy one in Finland, however fervently the advertising industry would wish otherwise.

Of course, I hope no one will have this kind of christmas - it should be about appreciating the people you care about. Peace, everyone!

I almost drew presents under a tree or a family gathering but I was convicted by what Christmas really means to me. So here it is.

This week's challenge word on Monday Artday is "Christmas". The actual challenge is to illustrate what Christmas means to me.
Christmas. O Christmas.
When I think of Christmas, I think of three things:
A day off from work.
Chinese food.
Going to the movies.

Not everyone celebrates the same way.

The Christmas tree Star

Here's my Christmas illustration which I use it for my Christmas cards. Here's the story and inspiration for it: As a kid, I used to fantasize on how the Christmas star were made and I thought that it came with the Christmas tree; once the tree was ready, the star would appear dazzling on his peak and that's how we would know it was Christmas-approved.
