PopUp

Sorry that this is off the topic but I have had some great news about the International Hand Made Picture Book Contest for 2010 in Japan. I received the Iguchi-Bunshu prize for my pop-up book. See http://www.ehonkan.or.jp/recruit/i-e_2010index.html
I think it's a great competition for anyone who want to have a go a writting and illustrating childrens stories.

If any one want to see some of the early developement images for my pop up book look at some of the older post on my blog http://tonyflowers.blogspot.com/2010/07/iguchi-bunshu.html

Administrative Oni

Oni are mean creatures from Japanese folktales and are a lot like ogres. They like to eat people and generally make them miserable. They remind me of some of the administrators I have known, who are much more concerned with maintaining the bottom line than the well being of their employees.

Kappa

A kappa is a pretty disgusting creature in Japanese literature, whose head is hollow like a bowl on top. It attacks human beings in a rather rude way and has a fondness for cucumbers. One can trick it by bowing to it; when it returns the bow, it spills the water in the bowl that is its head, and therefore loses its power and becomes harmless. This kappa has had even more bad luck and lost its body entirely. His head is now used for storing light. This drawing was made with graphite on coquille paper.
