And the Winner is... (for Change)

There were a ton of great illustrations this week (perhaps a half ton from Richard - you go, man!). I'd be hard-pressed to pick a winner - I'm glad someone else did it! Sandra (Tekentijger) won last week and she obliged us with her choice for this week. Thanks, Tekentijger!

I chose the drawing of the yelling man by Kathleen Rietz. It is very emotion-provocative. Although I am usually a 'violence is not a solution' kind of person, I got the urge to plant my elbow in this man's face! On the other hand, I want to shake some sense into her: of course he is not going to change! So leave him! Now! With or without using your elbow =) I think Kathleen did a very good job capturing this situation!

Change - Organic Abstract 2

Lately I've been obsessed with random abstract surreal doodles (like this week's illo friday) so for the Change theme, I invite you to ponder the change effected when you take a stark black and white drawing, and color it. I have a set of these (7 actually) which are ink drawings done on the back of business cards. I've been trying to decide what to do with them, colorwise, and honestly, i think somehow coloring them seems to not be as impactful as the pure black and white. Or maybe it's just this one. I really can't decide...

The Monday Artday challenge this week is "change".

"Even a man who is pure at heart, and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms and the autumn moon is bright."
This quote has been listed in some sources as an authentic Gypsy or Eastern European folk saying. Screenwriter Curt Siodmak admits that he simply made it up for 1941's The Wolf Man. However, the rhyme would be recited in every future Universal film appearance of the Wolf Man, and would also be quoted in Van Helsing (2004).
