Old Me

I drew this while riding the subway to work. It's just a silly sketch on a notebook. Maybe I'll do a better one until the end of the challenge.
Old Me will definitely be deaf and very grumpy- Young Me is quite grumpy and a little deaf at 21 already. Also, since Young Me never has a proper posture, Old Me will probably be a hunchback. Old Me will have lots of naughty cats.

New Challenge - Old Me!

The new challenge is:

Old Me!

Do a self-portrait as you imagine you might look like when you are very old.

The "Ghost" challenge is over. The new challenge is "Old Me" and ends on September 7, 2009. The "Moon" challenge continues for another week and ends on August 31, 2009.

And The Winner Is... Sandra Vargas!

The winner for the "Ghost" challenge is:

Sandra Vargas!

Congratulations to Sandra Vargas (sandybau). I chose Sandra's "Ghostly Girl" as the winner for the Ghost challenge. Sandra's illustration captures a haunting mood with an ethereal misty light and dark contrast. Welcome to Monday Artday, Sandra.

Moon, by Cynthia DiBlasi

A mixed media piece inspired by the classic Paper Moon song. Oil on canvas, paper, cardboard and sharpie. Composed in Photoshop with a few effects.

Moon Collage, by Bagalagalaga

Here's my first Monday Artday submission, a collage done in Photoshop, using some textures I collected around the apartment. I love art blogs like this, where you can see a huge variety of interpretations on one very simple concept, like "moon". You can find more art by this doodling chemist on my blog. Thanks for looking, comments appreciated!

Star Diver Angel Cat Pen and Ink Drawing

My daughter wanted me to draw a cat named Star Diver. My interpretation of that was a winged cat flying through space. See the nifty moon behind the kitty.

These Are Not The Droids You're Looking For

Some of you may have noticed that Monday Artday was blocked for a while. It's all good now. Someone at Google put us on the whitelist so we won't get blocked again. That person also commented that we have a cool blog! That's you guys, you know - the great artists that make this blog what it is. So post away, my friends!

New Challenge - Moon!

The new challenge is:

Moon!

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first Moon Walk, illustrate anything "moon".

The "Film Noir" challenge is over. The new challenge is "Moon" and ends on August 31, 2009. The "Ghost" challenge is also over and I will post a new challenge soon.

Film Noir Ends

I've decided for once to NOT choose a winner (this time). Instead, I'll list the wonderful artists that participated: Josh Pincus (great illo and story), Pascal (terrific sketch), elena inkpage (weird, abstract, and clever character), Nadia (funny cartoon), Jessica Ramirez (fantastic imagining of Film Noir), and Benjamin Vaughn (funny story, nice style).

Ghost Dragon Original Pen and Ink Drawing

With this week's theme, I was reminded of my son's toddler years of him putting a sheet or blanket over his head and saying "boo" to try and scare people. Usually it just made them giggle. And he has always loved dragons. Now he is about to start college in less than a week....

I think the ghost fits well into the weekly challenge theme.

Film Noir...

My first attempt ever at drawing in the Film Noir style. It was fun, but man, that was a lot of scribbling black.
