And The Winner Is... Clifford Shikler!

The winner for the "Vampire" challenge is:

Clifford Shikler!

Congratulations to Clifford Shikler. I chose Clifford's "Among Fire and Ice, Who is Hot and Who is Cold..." as the winner for the Vampire challenge. Clifford shows a great deal of skill and expertise in his art. This painting excels in portraying terror and dread. The frightening details of the face is heightened by the rough and unfinished borders. The blue subject denotes cold death with just enough red to give the feeling of blood.

Again, as always it seems lately, amazingly wonderful entries. Lots of great interpretations. I really enjoyed Josh Pincus' "Count Dracula, the grocery bagger" - fantastic detail, well drawn and colored, and BITINGLY funny! (ouch!)

Vampire Vomit

Oh, my! This was fun. I tried a few brushes that I hadn't before used, namely the felt pen variants in tandem with real bristle oils. I wasn't really trying to depict a vampire vomiting, but I enjoy poking fun at my own work. Ha.

Quick and Dirty Vector Vampire Pose

My attempt for a vampire "portrait" pose that was mostly vector created.

I started with a pencil drawing and imported its scan into Inkscape to create a vector version. Then took the png file of the vector version into Paint.NET and colored it. Took in total about 3 hours.

This is my friend whom I vampirized. Make up is a wonderful thing sometimes. Not my usual medium at all, but I had my fun.

Vampire

The horrible, terrible vampire bat is attacking the poor, unsuspecting giraffe!
Also, it's daytime. I don't know why.

bathroom break, boss?
With the popularity of young, cool vampires as presented in Twilight, True Blood and The Vampire Diaries, veterans like Count Dracula are forced to take on other employment to make ends meet.

Mystical

Max Schreck, as movie legend tells it, was mystical. He was a German actor. He supposedly kept to himself and not much was known about his life outside of acting. His most famous role was Count Orlock in the 1922 silent film "Nosferatu", notoriously based on (although unauthorized) the novel Dracula. The story is, that during the filming of "Nosferatu", Max stayed in character, would only shoot his scenes at night and came to the set in full theatrical make-up. There were rumors that Max was actually a vampire. In the movie Shadow of the Vampire, that is exactly how Willem Dafoe played him.
However, these stories are total fabrication. Max was just an actor on stage and screen, appearing in 51 movies in sixteen years. He died in 1936 of a heart attack. No wooden stakes were involved.
