And The Winner Is... FrankenBarry!

The winner for the "Family" challenge is:

FrankenBarry!

Congratulations to Rich Barry. I chose FrankenBarry's "Green Legs and Ham" as the winner for the Family challenge. Rich's wacky illustrations are always funny and incredibly creative. He has a unique style, crazy madness that fills the entire image. His "family" illustrated the theme well, with his usual twisted twist. Great work as always.

Family of " friends"

This is my family of friends that I have used as  a seasonal blog header.
I am referred to as the love goddess while each other lady has their own reference. I tried to capture them in their own unique element. Fairy goddess didn't recognize herself, although her kids knew exactly who she was. A funky high heel wearing grandma who works out five times a week!!!  Again much laughter ensued from these characters!!

Family

My brother requested long ago a caricature of his family.
So I surprised him with a cool likeness of his wife and children in this digitally drawn Christmas card.  He was thrilled and always gets a chuckle out of my work!

Family

Ah, the Holidays. A time for friends and family. Lots of good junk food to get fat on and vacation time. I almost always choose to stay in New York for Christmas and this year is no exception. I pick up as many shifts at work as I could so that all my co-workers could take time off. Then I'll take two weeks in January to go see the family and just have a break from waiting on ungrateful human beings.

However, this year I've been kinda bummed out cause I'm not going to get to go back to Maine to see my family. Its been a strange year with the death of a family member, his evil wife taking advantage of my grandmother, my sister selling her house... and blah blah blah.

Yesterday, New York go dumped on by almost a foot of snow and I was excited cause I had that moment where it felt like Christmas long ago. People were outside throwing snowballs, digging out parked cars, making snow angels and of course, making snowmen. Which is where the inspiration for this illustration comes from.

The people in the image from left to right are Snowman Christopher (my nephew,) Snowwoman Nana J, Snowwoman Dawn (my sister,) live John (Me,) Snowwoman Lynn (my mom,) and Snowdog Cee Cee.

This is for everyone who is away from their family this holiday! I hope that you find some way to make it bright! I'll be doing it with my "New York Family" Katz Deli style and then ice skating in Prospect Park.

Happy Holidays!

Cutest Member of the Family

This is a pastel work I've done for my sister a few months back. It's a portrait of her and her new baby, Naiah. He's the newest, and so far, the cutest member of our family.

'Jessie and His "Family'

"Jessie tried hard to like Uncle Nesbitt, even when his uncle pretended to be Santa Claus. Uncle Nesbitt was 'one of the 'family' - or so his mother claimed. Jessie though, was never quite sure." Green Legs and Ham

Hi Ho, Kermit the Frog, and Family Here!

Kermie, Miss Piggy, and their cute little tad-pig (or is he a pig-pole?), enjoying a sunny day, and sweeping the clouds away in Sesame Pond. They've decided to name the little guy: Bacon N. Legs... think of the culinary possibilities!

This one's my post for Family, and Frog, and even a late entry for Feast, hey tastes like Chicken, too! Wow, at this rate, I might be able to make this one last through 2010!

family

Blood is thicker than water/But thin and cold in the flood.
Two women meet on the street.

"Oh my goodness! How have you been, Mrs. Nolan? How are your sons?"

"Well, my sons! Let me tell you! My son Christopher, you know, is a big-shot Hollywood director! Oh, yes! He directed that backward movie, Momentus or whatever it's called. He was nominated for an Oscar for that one. And he directed that other one, with the magicians and Wolverine. Oh, The Prestige! That's it. And then he directed that big The Batman movie with that boy who died and the crazy one from the movie set."

"Oh my! K'neah Horah! That's wonderful. I always liked Christopher. Such a mensch."

"Oh, and my Jonathan is a big-shot Hollywood screenwriter. He wrote so many of the movies that my Christopher directed. Momentus, the magician movie, that Batman movie. He also writes other big-time movies for other big-shot Hollywood directors. He wrote the new Terminal Man movie, you know, like the old one that had Arnold the Governor in it."

"That is wonderful! And what about Matthew? I heard that Matthew kidnapped and murdered a businessman in Costa Rica and was an international fugitive until he was arrested in Chicago in March."

" Um............. I have two sons. Two."

Wonder Women

African women are (to my mind) 'wonder(ful)women'.
The way they work so hard in (sometimes) the direst circumstances
To feed their (mostly) huge families and extended families
To keep themselves looking good and (often) colourful
And mostly put up with (often) absent husbands
Who use them and then drift off to the next adventure....
