And The Winner Is... Claudio Rodriguez Valdes!

The winner for the "Frog" challenge is:

Claudio Rodriguez Valdes!

Congratulations to Claudio Rodriguez Valdes. I chose Claudio's "Look What I Found!" as the winner for the Frog challenge. Charming and fantastic, like a giant Miyazaki character, Claudio's imaginative painting is funny and joyful.

If there's ever anything that makes me want to run from this blog screaming, it's the arduous task of choosing a winner. The artwork here is always amazing and wonderful. The frog challenge was a knock out! I actually got the opinions of about 100 8th graders for the selection of this winner. They had a hard time too but most of them responded with the greatest delight to Claudio's frog. Biggest standouts for me were Katalin's wonderful frog prince, Andrew's Tim and the Frog, Evie's beautiful watercolor, Josh Billing's Froggy Christmas, Roberta's frog scientist, and the gorgeous design work and colors of Sandra Vargas' Frog! But even those are a tough choice over the rest of the incredible frogs all of the other artists submitted here. Thank you for such amazing work, everyone!

Monday Artday: Frog

"At bath times, Byron lurked just outside the bathroom, croaking until poor Tim, driven half crazy with the frog's plaintive pleas, would appear dripping at the door...."  Illustrator Andrew Finnie: Please click for big.

Crying Frog

Well, it's a frog that is crying.

Earth animals are not my strong suit as they are very particular in how they do or do not look. However, my attempts are made. I do wish I had more access to a scanner as doing paint things is a bit dragging, sometimes.

All in all, I feel like I did a very good job.

Green Legs and Ham

Hi Ho, Kermit the Frog, and Family Here!

Kermie, Miss Piggy, and their cute little tad-pig (or is he a pig-pole?), enjoying a sunny day, and sweeping the clouds away in Sesame Pond. They've decided to name the little guy: Bacon N. Legs... think of the culinary possibilities!

This one's my post for Family, and Frog, and even a late entry for Feast, hey tastes like Chicken, too! Wow, at this rate, I might be able to make this one last through 2010!

Frog Legs

Home again, home again, jiggity jog—
Back from the market where I bought me a frog.

Pulling off his little legs
This is what my froggy says:

“Take those legs and put them back.
You may not eat them as your snack!”

But in the pan I cooked them up
And now they sit here in my gut.

Love for Science

Frogs are the most commonly dissected animals below the university level. Other species used include cats, mice, rats, worms, dogs, rabbits, fetal pigs, and fish.
Classroom dissection desensitizes students to the sanctity of life.

a very froggy logo

for my first submission I thought I would submit my shop logo! The Framed Frog was hand-drawn in ink and then scanned and digitally colored to be used as my shop logo. I have a bit of an obsession with frogs...

frog

One morning when Pharaoh awoke in his bed, there were frogs in his bed and frogs on his head. Frogs on his nose and frogs on his toes. Frogs here. Frogs there. Frogs were jumping everywhere.
"This is what the Lord says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me. If you refuse to let them go, I will plague your whole country with frogs. The Nile will teem with frogs. They will come up into your palace and your bedroom and onto your bed, into the houses of your officials and on your people, and into your ovens and kneading troughs. The frogs will go up on you and your people and all your officials. ”
— Exodus 7:1–4

The second plague of Egypt was frogs. God commanded Moses to tell Aaron to stretch his staff over the water, and hordes of frogs came and overran Egypt. Pharaoh's sorcerers were also able to duplicate this plague with their magic. However, since they were unable to remove it, Pharaoh was forced to grant permission for the Israelites to leave so that Moses would agree to remove the frogs. To prove that the plague was actually a divine punishment, Moses let Pharaoh choose the time that it would end. Pharaoh chose the following day, and all the frogs died the next day. However, Pharaoh rescinded his permission, and the Israelites stayed in Egypt.

Look what I found!

This is an illustration I made as a birthday present... enjoy.

Tis the season

What a fun drawing to do for my first post. I thought I would have a little fun with the frog. Since the holidays are near, this seemed appropriate. I did the drawing in pencil then transferred it to the computer to color it digitally.

My sketchbook can be seen here

An Irish Blessing

Wishing you a rainbow
For sunlight after showers—
Miles and miles of Irish smiles
For golden happy hours—
Shamrocks at your doorway
For luck and laughter too,
And a host of friends that never ends
Each day your whole life through!

Happy St. Patrick's Day from Duda DAze!
